Bordeaux & Wine France Tour 2025

Bordeaux place de la Bourse

This tour has been designed to give the best experience of what the southwest of France offers.

Each region has a different and unique landscape, habitat and culture: 

  • Limestone baroque chateaux of Bordeaux are surrounded by vineyards producing world-class wine.

  • Chesnut forest of the Dordogne region and the high-pitched tiled roofs of maisons.

  • Unspoilt mountains, valleys and lakes of the Pyrénées mountains. 

  • The Spanish architectural influence of the Basque Country.

Activities

We will be doing a range of activities - biking - canoeing - hiking - yoga - stretching- aquafitness - swimming. 
We recommend you have a reasonable standard of fitness so that you get the most out of this experience. Comfort, safety and fun are our aims. You will visit forests, villages and markets by e-bike; the perfect way to experience the French countryside.

Enjoy the electric bike revolution. Each ride is 20 to 40 km with plenty of stops for cafés, baguettes and photo shoots.

Canoeing the Dordogne river is very scenic and very safe. There are plenty of places to stop for a picnic, visit a village and take more photos.

We hike on easy-to-medium well-marked trails for approximately two to four hours with plenty of rest, food and stunning scenery.

Pre-tour arrival: Friday 15 August 

You will be met at Bordeaux Airport and dropped off at the hotel Ibis in the centre of the city for a well-deserved rest after your flight, a tour rendez-vous and briefing.

1 - City of Bordeaux & wine region 

DAY 1 : Saturday 16 August - Visit the beautiful city of Bordeaux

Bike tour of Bordeaux:

Enjoy a guided tour through Bordeaux which is an historical UNESCO world heritage site with our 12 highly trained and experienced guides. You will see spectacular limestone buildings and the natural beauty of Bordeaux as you bike along the Garonne river.

Visit 'La cité du vin' and step into a world of experiences.

Embark on a sensory adventure to discover the cultures and civilisations of wine. 'La cité du vin' is an open exhibition space of more than 3,000 m². Nearly 20 different themed areas invite you to discover and enjoy the many and varied facets of wine across time and place.

DAY 2 : Sunday 17 August - Explore the Médoc wine region

Drive along the Castles Route from Bordeaux to the Médoc peninsula which overflows 

with history and breathtaking landscapes. Eight of the most famous Bordeaux appellations are found here, such as Margaux, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, Saint-Julien and Moulis.

Winery biking tour: Bike through the vineyard,  and take in a view of Chateau Mouton Rothschild.

Chateau visit and wine tasting: Visit the vineyards and cellars of local Médoc winery. Meet the winemakers, sample some of the grand cru red wines in production, and gain insight into centuries of wine-making history.

DAY 3 : Monday 18 August - Experience medieval Saint Emilion

Two thousand years of history between men and vines are waiting for you here.

Saint-Emilion is a world-renowned, charming, medieval village located in the heart of the Bordeaux wine area. Discover the vineyards of Saint-Emilion by bike. Tour the underground hermitage and the Monolithic Church.

2 - Dordogne region 

DAY 4 : Tuesday 19 August - Canoe the Dordogne river

Chateaux and old stone villages are sprinkled all over the green hillsides with high waterfalls cascading into this beautiful river. Visit the villages of Cénac and Bénac.

DAY 5 : Wednesday 20 August - Village bike tour

Cycle through pretty villages and along riverside tracks. Explore stunning chateaux and lively markets. Each village is as picturesque as the next, inviting you to explore their winding streets and a journey back in time. Visit the Marquesac gardens

DAY 6 : Thursday 21 August - Visit Lascaux prehistoric cave

The full length of Lascaux cave has now been revealed. A new replica retraces the discoveries of the famous network of caves. Over 600 Parietal wall paintings cover the interior walls and ceilings.

Visit the medieval town of Sarlat.

3 - Pyrénées mountains 

DAY 7 : Friday 22 August - Drive to the Pyrénées mountains

You will be driven through the rolling countryside of the New Aquitaine region

heading to the Vallée d'Aspe; one of the most remote corners of the

French Pyrénées.

DAY 8 : Saturday 23 August - Hike in the Pyrénées National Park

This is a remarkable area noted for its landscape and biodiversity.

Enjoy a 4-hour walk to the Lac de l'Hurs, visit the shepherd's hut for a picnic and take an icy swim in the lake!

DAY 9 : Sunday 24 August - Bike tour of the Vallée d'Aspe

Level: Easy. Enjoy the power of the e.bike as you cycle through small villages and along mountains roads.

4 - Basque Country

DAY 10 : Monday 25 August - Drive to the Basque Country

This seductive and distinctive corner of France marries Spanish and French influences but has a unique, intriguing culture all of its own.

You will visit the fishing village of St Jean de Luz and the beautiful seaside resort of Biarritz.

DAY 11 : Tuesday 26 August - Bike the Landes forest cycleway

The Landes forest is the largest planted forest in Europe, and it is renowned for the quality and abundance of its flora and fauna. It continues to be preserved for its unique species of maritime pine.

A 45 km ride on a cycleway through pine forest, seaside resorts and fishing villages. We will drive to Spain and experience the old city of San Sebastian with its famous bars and tapas nightlife.

DAY 12 : Wednesday 27 August - Shopping & relax

Enjoy a relaxing day in Biarritz which is known for its famous beaches, therapeutic pools and thriving surf culture. Biarritz offers visitors a unique atmosphere, a place where posh restaurants and spas live alongside pizzerias and surf shops.

DAY 13 : Thursday 28 August - Drive to Bordeaux

You'll be driven 200 km along the motorway back to Bordeaux through the flat landscape of the Landes forest. You will be dropped off at Bordeaux Airport for your next adventure.

Tour price: NZ$-7500 per person

Small personalised tour ranging from 6 to 12 people

  • 13 nights' accommodation in charming B&B or hotel twin-share + ensuite lodgings

  • 2 personal tour guides who speak French (Jacques) and English (Cindy)
